Stay in a cosy guest house, enjoy good food, take in a ballet at the Grand Théâtre, enjoy the spa at the Grand Hôtel... Here is my selection of ideas for a romantic break in Bordeaux!

Where’s the best place to declare your love?

Dinner with a view at Bistrot Gabriel

For lovers, there’s nothing like a restaurant with a view! This quality restaurant offers incredible views of the Miroir d’eau and the Garonne. Sophisticated cuisine and excellent value for money. Be sure to pay a visit to Bar Le Dix: home of the best cocktails in Bordeaux.

Get a great view

See a ballet or an opera at the Grand Théâtre

At the Place de la Comédie, facing le Grand Hotel de Bordeaux & Spa *****, you will find the Opéra de Bordeaux, the Grand-Théâtre. A beautiful setting in this magnificent eighteenth-century building, reminiscent of the Palais Garnier. Even if you don’tt have time to see a show, go inside and see this architectural wonder.
Of course, the best thing would be to book a show. Another idea: try out Le quatrième mur, Philippe Etchebest's new restaurant. A two-star chef, the restaurant is located in the columns of the Grand-Théâtre (complete 3 course meal with starter-main-dessert, €49 at night).

Go to a jazz concert on Thursday night at l'Hôtel de Sèze

In the beautiful setting of l'Hôtel de Sèze, you will certainly enjoy a unique evening concert. Once a month, starting from 8p.m., the hotel's restaurant, le Comptoir de Sèze, hosts a live jazz quartet concert. A dinner costing €45 forms part of these evenings, as well as a jazzy-coloured cocktail menu.

Where to steal a kiss?

Le Passage Sarget tea room

Here you will find a very cosy tea room, situated in a stunning corridor with a nineteenth-century canopy,: le Passage Sarget. At Any'teas, amidst of wall mouldings and original frescoes, you can taste hundreds of different teas (teas from India, China, and Java as well as Kenya), accompanied by scones, muffins, homemade pastries...
Take the staircase that is marked "Eiffel" to go upstairs and view the corridor from above. A pretty terrace for the sunny days, romance to your heart's content!

Would you like an intimate dinner?

Dinner with a view, at the restaurant Le 7, at La Cité du Vin

The restaurant "Le 7" is Bordeaux's panoramic restaurant in La Cité du Vin. On the 7th floor, you dine whilst overlooking Port de la Lune, from le Pont d'Aquitaine to the spire of Saint-Michel. Sunday brunch is a nice time to go, but you can also participate in cookery workshops, relax in the tea room in the afternoon, and evening wine courses...

Enjoy the creative cuisine of Julien Cruège

For a gourmet dinner, make a booking at Julien Cruège: delicate and very refined dishes, full of flavour and spice. A bit of advice, ask for the Carte Blanche menu.
Our favourite spot is the very tranquil terrace, shaded in summer, where you can see the chef cooking. Make a stop at this restaurant which will also give you the opportunity to discover a trendy neighbourhood, just out of the centre, between Saint-Seurin and the Jardin public. The perfect welcome.

Unique romantic walks, hand-in-hand

Spend some time in the antique shops of le quartier de Chartrons

Just north of Bordeaux's historic center, you will find the Quartier des Chartrons. A village-like atmosphere reigns in this now-trendy neighbourhood. Walk hand-in-hand past the antique stores while doing some window-shopping, something that is very typical in the Chartrons.

Eat oysters in the Arcachon basin

If you like oysters, you should ideally go and enjoy them in the oyster ports of Arcachon and Cap Ferret. Take the road and stop at a hut that takes your fancy, where you can taste and buy a dozen at prices that are often very affordable. You also have the opportunity to admire the beautiful landscapes of the bay and meet oyster farmers of the region.

A unique extravagance!

If you are celebrating a special occasion, indulge in a unique couple's experience at the Nuxe Spa, "Les Bains de Léa" at le Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa *****

With Roman-themed baths decorated by Jacques Garcia, the Spa is housed in the top three floors of the hotel that is also home to a panoramic jacuzzi-terrace overlooking the rooftops of Bordeaux. 10 cabins, a sensory experience pool area, a sauna and a hammam... The getaway for two includes a 1hour 15-minute massage and 30-minute face and scalp treatment (€395 for 2).

Where to stay?

In a pretty guest house room with a countryfied atmosphere, only 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre

The advantage of the guest room? Here you feel welcome in a more personalised way, pampered and advised by people who know their city well. A bit further away from the city centre, a 10-minute walk, I recommend L'Arena, a guest house full of charm situated in an old renovated house, near the Jardin Public de Bordeaux.
Ideal if you want a cosy atmosphere in rooms with a refined and contemporary style, very quiet, overlooking a lovely courtyard. A delicious breakfast. Don’t hesitate to ask your host for advice on restaurants and sites that are worth visiting.
