Paris lights up as New Year approaches. The famous plane trees are wrapped in twinkling lights on the world’s most beautiful avenue, department store window displays and the Christmas markets, ensuring that the City of Lights shines brightly!

The illuminations on the Champs-Elysées kick start the Christmas festivities. From mid-November to the start of January, from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am, the 200 plane trees on the avenue will feature sparkling garlands to dazzle every visitor. Stretching over 2.4 km, from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde, Paris sparkles...

The world’s most famous avenue will be lit up all night long on 31 December. On the evenings of 24 and 31 December, a “surprise” illumination will astonish passers-by!

The Colours of Christmas in Paris

Other areas of Paris feature the colours of Christmas, with magical illuminations: Bercy Village, la Place Vendôme, le Viaduc des Arts, rue Saint-Honoré, avenue Montaigne...

Department store windows are transformed into spectacular displays, with lights, mobiles, clockwork puppets... Head to the Grands Boulevards with Printemps or the window displays of the Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, a veritable institution where children press their noses against the glass to catch a glimpse of the clockwork installations.

Christmas markets are set up in several areas of Paris: on the Champs-Élysées, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, at La Défense, at Montparnasse, on the Place de la République...

For the festive season, several local carousels offer free rides, including those in: the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville, on the Place de l’Odéon, or Place de la Madeleine.....
