This year Les Galeries Lafayette Haussmann are organising an out-of-this-world Christmas, with a very special and unmissable guest: Star Wars!
From 4 November 2015, the clockwork window displays at the Galeries Lafayette present the intergalactic world of Léon, an adventurous little robot! He lives on the planet Scopi with his friend Lumi and his whole family. Léon, who is very curious, often uses a telescope to observe his universe. After spotting the strange bright light of a Christmas bauble, he decides to embark on a voyage to see our incredible Christmas...
To celebrate the release of the final instalment of the Star Wars saga (18 December) Disney have joined forces with the Galeries Lafayette to create displays and events dedicated to Star Wars. From 4 November to 4 January, you’ll discover a unique display on the second floor, featuring Stormtrooper helmets customised by French artists. Astonishing collectors’ items to delight any fan! From 30 November, Lafayette Homme is hosting a show on the second floor that could turn you into a real Jedi… Unless you’ve already joined the Dark Side of the Force?
Under the cupola, the 25 metre Christmas tree is cosmic this year: it’s formed entirely of gold and silver meteorites and features a rain of stars. The way it lights up the Galeries is impressive... Some would say it’s out of this world!
Galeries Lafayette, 40 Boulevard Haussmann
Metro Chaussée d’Antin (lines 7 and 9) or Opéra (lines 3-7-8)
Open Monday to Saturday 9:30 am to 8:00 pm, (9:00 pm on Thursdays).
Christmas is “So British” at the BHV this year: from Tuesday 17 November at 6:00 pm, the façade will be lit up and adorned with Union Jacks! Be on (British!) time to discover the variety of activities created by BHV. Everything is in place to make the most of this super-chic world from 18 November to 30 December 2015: a choir, “Do It Yourself” workshops, and even selfies in the famous red phoneboxes... You won’t have enough time to try it all!
Of course, the window displays will also be in British colours: red phone boxes will enliven the bold messages behind the glass “Shopping is GREAT”, “Fashion is GREAT” or even “Food is GREAT!” The idea came from the British government who launched the “GREAT” image campaign in partnership with the BHV Marais.
“So British” entertainment
England is clearly synonymous with “tea time!” There will be a free tea tasting session every day until 2 January, at 4:00 pm in La Cour Bleue... There are so many varieties of tea, you may struggle to choose!
Oh my dog! The British Bulldog takes pride of place! The dog with an unmistakable face is legendary in the United Kingdom, and everyone loves him. Own a British Bulldog? Then come along to a special photo call between 4 and 13 December, and leave with your own personalised greetings card. You and your dog will become real stars!
For more ‘hands-on’ shoppers, “Do It Yourself” will take pride of place on Wednesday 2 December, and every Saturday from 28 November: create your own Christmas decorations or follow little British recipes, it’s all possible!
Of course, the kids haven’t been forgotten! Father Christmas will be in town for his traditional photo on Wednesdays and Saturdays until 19 December from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. There’s a real photo studio decorated for the occasion: an unforgettable moment to keep and remember forever!
