What is Interrail and who is eligible?

An Interrail Pass is a rail Pass that lets you explore Europe by train. You can either choose a Global Pass, allowing you to explore up to 30 European countries, or one of the 27 One Country Passes if you want to discover everything about a certain place.

Anyone who lives in Europe or Russia can purchase an Interrail pass, at any age. You cannot purchase a “one country pass” for your country of residence.

Travel to the following destinations with the Global Pass: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, FRY Macedonia, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Holland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey.

The One Country Pass allows you to discover one of these countries, with the exception of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro.


Interrail passes are available to the residents of the participating European countries and the residents of the Russian Federation, with no limits of age.

List of countries whose residents are entitled to Interrail products: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark (including Faroe Islands but excluding Greenland), Estonia, Finland, FYR Macedonia, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Republic of) (including Northern Ireland), Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (including Melilla, Ceuta and Canary Islands), Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom (including Isle of Man and Channel Islands), Vatican City.

Types of Pass and fares

Choose the Interrail option that suits you: With a Global pass travel in up to 30 countries, with a One Country Pass explore a country of choice.


Trains on which booking is not compulsory can be accessed for free when you show your Interrail Pass. Other operators, for whom booking is compulsory, require a supplementary ticket to be purchased. An Interrail Pass fare will apply to your bookings.


Types of Pass

Pass fares

Interrail Pass fares vary depending on your destination, the formula selected and your traveller profile: Child, Young person, Adult or Senior. Special fares are available:

  • Children fare: (4-12 years) Enjoy a rate of 0 € for children traveling with an adult (limited to 2 children per adult, beyond that the child can benefit of a young fare) The Children Pass must be booked at the same time as the adult pass.
  • Youth Fare (12-26 years) : Use your pass to enjoy preferential rates for 1st or 2nd class fares.
  • Adult fare: Enjoy a travel flexibly. Travel on first or second class. This rate varies according to the comfort class chosen.
  • Senior fare (Over 60 years): This fare is only available for a Global Pass.

If the criteria of your choice are not available for your age category, book an Adult Pass for access to all travel classes.



  • If you are eligible for a Senior fare and you wish to book a One Country Pass, book an Adult Pass.

The price of the Interrail Pass does not include bookings or compulsory supplements to travel on certain trains.

How do I book my Interrail Pass?

Book your Interrail Pass up to 11 months in advance.

On the homepage, click on ' Rail Passes ' and follow the instructions!

On the Details page, your passport number is required. Your passport must be valid at the time of travelling.

How do I book a train ticket with an Interrail Pass?

To travel on booking-only trains with the majority of European operators, a supplementary ticket is required. An Interrail Pass fare applies to your bookings.

When requested, you must show your train ticket with your valid Interrail Pass onboard the train.

The e-ticket is not available for your tickets booked with an InterRail Pass (Global Pass or One Country Pass).

Track your orders

Interrail Pass booking

To display your booking, go to 'My Interrail Pass bookings'. Click on 'My bookings' at the top right of the homepage.

Enter the 8 digit booking number you receive on the booking confirmation page and in the booking confirmation e-mail and click 'View'.

You can also search your booking with your name, by clicking 'Advanced search'.

Your Interrail Pass order is not displayed in train booking tracking.

Haven't received the booking confirmation e-mail?

Contact us on 00 33 9 70 60 99 70 and we will send you a new booking confirmation e-mail (Mondays to Saturdays 8 AM to 8 PM, Sundays 10 AM to 8 PM. International rate).


Booking a train ticket with an Interrail Pass fare

Go to 'My bookings' at the top right of the homepage. Enter your 6 digit booking reference and your name, then click 'View'.

Lines covered

The Pass cannot be used in your country of residence and there are a few trains which have chosen to opt out of the InterRail scheme. If you wanted to travel on one of these, you would need to purchase a public priced ticket.

These services are:

  • Italo - high speed trains in Italy (TrenItalia's services do have Passholder reservations)

In addition, there are some services that offer only a discounted Passholder fare, rather than a reservation supplement.

These include:

  • Eurostar (services between London and Paris, Brussels and Lille)
  • Thalys (services between France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany)
  • TGV France-Italy
  • Renfe-SNCF en Coopération
  • TGV and ICE Paris-Germany services

On these trains, it’s worth checking to see whether there are any normal fares available at a lower cost than the Passholder fares.

Overnight trains

When using an overnight train with an InterRail Pass, it depends on the departure time as to how many days of the Pass you need to use.

  • If the service departs before 7pm, then you need to enter both the date of departure and the date of arrival on the Pass, using two days’ of travel.
  • If the service leaves after 7pm, and arrives at your destination after 4am, then you just enter the date of arrival, using only one travel day.

This rule does not apply for a departure after 7pm on the day before the start of your Pass validity. For example, if your service departs at 18:15 on 21st January, then you would need to enter 21/01 and 22/01 on you Pass. However, if the service departs at 19:15 on 21st January, then you would only enter 22/01 on your Pass.

Please note that this rule does not apply on the last date of validity, when all travel must be completed by midnight.

You cannot cancel your InterRail Pass online at

To cancel or exchange your InterRail Pass:

  1. Call 00 33 9 70 60 99 70 (Mondays to Saturdays 8 AM to 8 PM, Sundays 10 AM to 8 PM. International rate), to cancel your Pass.

  1. Send your InterRail Pass by recorded delivery (costs not included) to the following address to receive a refund:

A 15% reduction will be applied.


Exchanging and re-funding a train ticket with an InterRail Pass fare

The same procedure also applies if you wish to exchange your Pass. If travelling soon, purchase a new Pass and send us the old one. A refund will be sent on receipt. The 15% discount will not apply.
